High gain with definition

Black is the most brutal amplifier in the Kool Amplification range: heavy gain with a fast attack, tight bass response and thick mids. Its broad gain control lets you move between clean sounds and full overdrive without losing articulation.

Black is an obsolete model.

Channel voices and controls

Channel 1 has mild and hot modes. Mild delivers a dynamic, open clean sound with a three-dimensional character. It stays warm and defined, and responds well to fuzz and boost pedals.

Hot mode brings fat crunch tones balanced with channel 2's overdrive. Expect pronounced mids, a bigger low end and a sweet top end. Channel 1 responds dynamically to your playing and your guitar's volume control.

Channel 2 delivers full, harmonically rich overdrive with an organic, musical character. Natural compression, fat bass and even harmonics give it a sustained voice that cuts through.

Both channels have individual gain and master volume controls, so you can set each channel's response and balance their levels for live playing.

SVC volume control

SVC, or Seamless Volume Control, is an additional total-volume control in the power section. It lets you retain your tone at lower levels without a power soak. The stated SVC range runs from 0,1 watt bedroom levels to 50 watt stage levels; Black was offered with separate 18 Watts R.M.S. and 50 Watts R.M.S. power sections.

The footswitchable SVC Volume Boost gives either channel an adjustable solo lift. It works as an additional SVC volume control: set it higher than your regular SVC setting for a louder solo level.

Effects loop and footswitch

The true bypass effects loop is footswitchable and buffered by a 12AU7 tube to minimize its effect on the original signal. Its volume control lets you amplify, attenuate or balance the loop signal.

The 3 button footswitch controls channel selection, the effects loop and volume boost.

The 18 Watt version has:

Both versions provide outputs for 4, 8, 16 Ohm or 2x16, 2x8 Ohm speaker connections.

Construction and finish

Black is handmade from start to finish by Kool Amplification in the Netherlands, using hybrid handwired construction with a hand-soldered printed circuit board.

The enclosure uses 13 ply lightplex with Kool corner construction and Black Rose tolex. A custom color or tolex is an extra option on request.

Warranty and service

The amplifier warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. Tubes are wear parts and are excluded from coverage. Repairs and service are handled by Kool Amplification's own specialized team.
